Growing
Daylilies
Planting and General Care
Daylilies (Hemerocallis) are hardy
plants that are grown in every climatic zone in Australia.
They can bloom
for up to 6 months once established. For best results, there are 4 golden
rules:
Planting Position - Full sun, except inland areas where temperatures in summer average above 30 degrees
Mulch Annually - Cow manure and lucern hay applied during early spring, once fertiliser has been added
Weekly Watering - Once daylilies are established they will grow surprisingly well on little water
Fertilizer - Any
good organic fertiliser prior to mulching in early spring, and also in late
summer
Please Note: Daylilies begin to divide during summer once the main bloom period has finished.
Hot weather during summer may burn the daylilies' foliage thus effecting the daylilies rate of
dividing. Therefore, in areas with hot summers, plant daylilies in part shade, or afternoon shade.
